Replacement for cover lost in accident
This project was created on Solidworks and tested on Ansys to find a thickness and lamina orientation that was suitable for mild impacts. it was determined that a 45/-45 laminate of 6 layers was effective. This was manufactured by 3D printing segments with the same dimensions as the original mirror and using those in a vacuum former to create a smooth mold. This mold was covered in chopped fiber glass and epoxy to stiffen it and then layered on the inside with resin and carbon fiber to make the finished part. The part was then vacuum bagged to remove air and impurities overnight while the epoxy set.
